For patients being fed through a tube or those who need extra oral dietary supplementation, there are plenty of liquid nutrition options. Nutren has a wide variety of flavored products including high calorie, very high calorie, high protein, with fiber, and a fiber option for children ages 1-10. Jevity and Peptamen brands have similar options to that of Nutren with 1.0 high calorie, 1.5 moderately high calorie, and 2.0 very high calorie supplements. For those with severely compromised GI tracts, Vivonex Plus unflavored Elemental Powder is a great option. Nestle Microlipid is a fifty percent fat emulsion that can be used as an oral supplement, put into foods, or in feeding tubes for those with especially high caloric requirements, decreased carbohydrate tolerance or fluid restriction.
