It connects to both your telephone and Internet service to give you the best of both worlds: voice and captions. The captions are provided by a free service that uses the Internet connection to automatically display captions for every call, quickly and accurately. Captions are available on calls within the United States only. FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS ANYONE BUT REGISTERED USERS WITH HEARING LOSS FROM USING INTERNET PROTOCOL (IP) CAPTIONED TELEPHONES WITH THE CAPTIONS TURNED ON. IP Captioned Telephone Service may use a live operator. The operator generates captions of what the other party to the call says. These captions are then sent to your phone. There is a cost for each minute of captions generated, paid from a federally administered fund. No cost is passed on to the CapTel user for using the service.
What you should expect.
The CapTel phone transcription service is federally-funded. Once you have placed your order, a CapTel representative will contact you via email/phone to verify your information and offer installation assistance. Please ensure that the phone number and email in your order are correct. The email subject line will read CapTel Verification. YOU MUST RESPOND, OR YOUR ORDER WILL NOT SHIP. This service is currently experiencing overwhelming demand, and there could be delays in shipment.
You will have 30 days after installation to try your new CapTel phone and the captioning service. You can return the phone at any time within the 30 days for a full refund. If you decide to keep the phone, there is nothing more you need to do—just enjoy phone calls again with confidence!
Please note that due to the national health crisis, no in-person installations are being scheduled at this time. If you need installation support, you can receive “over the phone” installation support with our ISTT (Inside Sales Tech Team) department.
