Care Manager Hotline Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the Care Manager Hotline service?  It is a phone consultation service staffed by qualified geriatric care managers who can answer your questions regarding elder care concerns, provide relevant expert information, help you weigh alternatives and make informed decisions regarding your aging parent’s care needs.
     
  2. What is a care manager?  Also called “geriatric care managers,” these professionals are health and human services specialists who help families care for their parents, older relatives and elderly friends.
     
  3. What are the specific qualifications of the persons who perform the Care Manager Hotline consultations?   All Care Manager Hotline phone consultants are social workers or registered nurses (RNs) with  specific training and in-depth experience in geriatric care and the issues faced by older individuals and their families.
     
  4. If I call the Care Manager Hotline how quickly will I be able to speak with a care manager?  If you call during our hours of service, in most cases, you will be connected to a care manager right away. You can also arrange a specific appointment time.  If you call after hours, you will receive a call the next business day morning. In the event that your situation is urgent, please let the answering service know this and you may be able to speak with a care manager after  hours.
     
  5. How would speaking with a care manager benefit my parent and my family?  Whether your parent is in crisis or you have general concerns regarding his or her health and well-being, our care managers can help by first consulting with you, and if appropriate, with your parent.  Parentgiving care managers will conduct a detailed phone consultation, then will provide individualized recommendations which address your immediate needs. 
     
  6. Are care management services covered by insurance or Medicare?  Care manager services typically are private consultations and are not covered by Medicare or regular health insurance. On occasion, care manager services may be covered by a long-term care policy. Please consult your insurance provider for more information.
     
  7. What is the cost of Care Manager Hotline service? The service  is a fee-based phone consultation service. After the initial consultation and needs assessment, you will be quoted the rates before any charges are incurred.
     
  8. What are the hours of operation?  Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern
     
  9. How much time should I expect to spend with a Parentgiving care manager?  The amount of time families may require for care management varies from case to case. You may be able to address your concerns in one 45 minute phone consultation or if your situation is complex, more time may be required to understand your situation, research alternatives and help you reach decisions.
     
  10. What specific topics can a care manager help me with?  Our care managers can help you with a number of tasks including, but not limited to:
