My 82-year-old father was recently advised that he had to start wearing compression hose to keep his legs and feet from swelling. However, we didn't realize how very difficult it would be for him to daily get these hose on! We asked the consultant at the pharmacy if there was some correct way to put the hose on, because my father was struggling with this and hurting his wrists and hands every day. She advised getting a unit to help, but the one they handled at the pharmacy seemed like it would not be much help. So, I checked out ParentGiving, because we'd been satisfied with an item ordered previously. And, once again, we are satisfied with the unit ordered.
Pros:My father is able to get his compression hose on more easily than without this unit. It still is not a perfect procedure, but he has been experimenting a bit with how he places the hose on the unit, and how he pulls it up. Also, my father wears size 13 shoes, and the unit is large enough to accommodate his large foot. Although once at home, it did not look as sturdy as it did in the photo, it does seem strongly made and we won't have to worry about it breaking.
Cons:If I could change the unit, I would make the handles about 6 inches longer, which would help in starting to pull on the hose. Also, the instructions note that the "pins" that hold the unit together can be pinched shut by hand. We found that this is not the case. We had to use screwdriver to tighten the pins. That means if it needs to be taken apart to travel, a screwdriver needs to be taken as well, to assemble/disassemble unit.
Overall: Yes, I would recommend this product.
