The weather in northern New Jersey has been awful! Heat and oppressive humidity day after day. Air conditioning is a must. Except for her weekly trip to the beauty salon and lunch afterwards, my M.I.L. has stayed indoors, which is a wise thing to do, but it’s giving her a case of cabin fever. When I get home from work at night she is sitting in the family room watching the door from the garage into the kitchen to see who’s arriving. After the “Hello, how are you?” comes the “So what’s new? Any news, any dirt, any excitement?” My responses go like this… “Fine, and you? No. No. No.” Her response, “Why not?” My reply, “I was working.” Her retort, “That’s all you ever say.” The more she stays inside, the more agitated she gets with my woefully boring existence. (I personally like boring!) One day I will surprise her and my responses will be… “Fabulous and you? Yes, video at 11. Yes, the top soil was delivered today. Yes, I had a winning bottle cap and got a free Snapple.” I certainly hope the weather breaks soon and she can resume spending time outside, then I can enjoy my woefully boring life again.
