We went out to dinner Saturday night for a more formal celebration of my MIL’s birthday. We chose one of her favorite restaurants where, as the theme song to “Cheers” goes, everybody knows her name. It makes the experience that much more special for her when she’s greeted by name and a fuss is made over her. At the next table was a party of 8 older folks who were having a great time. At one point one of the women looked over at us and said, “Sorry we’re so loud. It’s my 88th birthday.” We said not to worry, and that it was my MIL’s 92nd! Everyone at both tables joined in to sing Happy Birthday both times it was sung and a great time was had by all.
