Adult Day Centers are designed to provide socialization, physical, mental and emotional stimulation to people that may require supervised care in a safe place outside the home during the day. Typically, participants of Day Centers live with a family member or caregiver, and although the participant may require limited assistance or supervision, they do not require full time medical assistance. Anyone over the age of 18 may attend a Day Center and the average age of a Day Center Participant is 72. Day Centers enable participants to feel valued and have a sense of purpose while maintaining dignified and meaningful lives in their own homes and with their families and communities. Adult Day Centers also provide caregivers with respite from the demanding responsibilities of caregiving for loved ones.
Participants can visit Day Centers as often as they would like, however, we recommend that participants visit the Day Center a minimum of 2-3 days per week to establish relationships with other guests and staff, and become familiar with the activities. Adult Day Centers generally operate during normal business hours five days a week. Some programs offer services in the evenings and on weekends. The Staff at licensed Adult Day Centers are required to have specialized training in assisting people with memory disorders including Alzheimer's.
Although each facility may differ in terms of services, these general services are offered by most Adult Day Centers:
The socialization along with the physical and mental stimulation cannot be under estimated. Prior to coming to our center, one of our guests, Bertha, did not sleep well at night because she was napping and watching TV most of the day. Since Bertha has been coming to Ardent Manor and has become active throughout the day, her daughter (who is her primary caregiver) says that Bertha is sleeping through the night and has so much more energy. Bertha enjoys the physical activities, particularly, the Beach Ball Blast that we do every afternoon. The Beach Ball Blast is designed to assist our guests with eye and hand coordination, physical stimulation and serves as a warm-up to our low-impact exercises in the afternoon.
