Today is World Alzheimer’s Day, when Alzheimer associations from around the world unite to raise awareness of the disease and urge citizens and supporters to take action. Some facts: Every 70 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s, and there are currently 5.3 million people in the United States are living with AD. Alzheimer’s and dementia triple healthcare costs for Americans 65 and older, and Alzheimer’s costs more than $148 billion each year to Medicare, Medicaid and businesses. The Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization providing support to families facing Alzheimer’s and funding research that will get us closer to a cure. At their website actionalz.org you can learn about how to make a difference by getting involved with one of these programs or just making a donation: Become an Alzheimer Champion, Host a tailgate fundraiser, Join or start a Memory Walk team or Coordinate "Casual for a Cause" at your workplace.
